Half Life 2: Episode 2 Team Fortress 2 and Portal RELEASED!

Half Life 2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal have just been released to anxiously waiting gamers everywhere. It has been an excruciating wait considering Episode 1 was released on June 1st of 2006, over one year ago. While Episode 2 may not push the boundaries of graphics by offering DirectX 10 graphical effects, it none the less offers spectacular DirectX 9 graphics with a few tricks up its sleeves, including the ability to offload particle effects to the GPU and of course massively fun gameplay.
Linux Quake Wars due out in Weeks!

Timothee Besset, the Linux ID developer previously shared that the Linux client of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars would be out in a few weeks. In that community announcement he had not directly talked about a Linux client demo for ET: Quake Wars, however, that too is on the way. As there have been Linux demos for both Doom 3 and Quake 4, it should be no surprise that there will be on for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars as well. From an announcement on id Software's closed beta list, it sounds like the ET:QW v1.1 demo may even be out before the retail Linux client.

The Linux demo client will be around 600~700 megabytes and includes one demo campaign with LAN and Internet game-play support.

Earlier this week id Software had also released a ET:QW v1.1 (Release 4) server update for Linux.

Unreal Tournament 2007 No Longer Called UT2007

Epic Games annouced in Las Vegas that they were dropping the name Unreal Tournament 2007 and instead calling it Unreal Tournament III. The III stands for the third version of the unreal engine. It is also approperate that they now will release the game on three platforms. No longer will this be a playstation and PC only game. Xbox360 will now also get the title.

So far the early reviews of this game are amazing.

"The game looks spectacular, and it's quite possibly the best Unreal Engine 3 game that we've seen to date. Considering that this list includes last year's Gears of War, that's high praise indeed." - GameSpot

Battlefield 2142 Linux Dedicated Server

Battlefield 2142 came out Dec 18th,2005 with both Windows and Linux dedicated servers. It is still nice to see some developers giving Linux its due when their games are released.

It seems many new game releases now are starting to leave Linux dedicated servers out more and more which is very dissapointing.

The latest quake3 exploit is running out of control like a wildfire. This is the problem:

"A second issue fixed in this release would let a malicious server exploit a buffer overflow to execute a shellcode on connecting clients."

Here is what it looks like in your logs:

Flag_Pickup: 7
Item: 14 item_health
Item: 10 ammo_shells
