View Full Version : Help on setting up mod games anyone?
Well, iv'e just been through this site and learned everything i can think of to learn about basic and advanced server setup on quake 3, but, i don't see anything anywhere describing how to setup a mod game. specifically, i'm looking to setup an excessive overkill game with high frag limit, fair time, and map cycling. i'm not sure what to d/l either. there seems to be multiple mod files for excessive overkill to d/l too. please, any advice on this topic would be helpful.
Thanks! *^___^*

Go to http://www.planetquake.com/excessive to dl the necessary server files to run a server. In the zip file there are instructions for setting up an excessive server. If that doesn't help, post back. I run an excessive server so I can help you out. Or email me at cRiTTeR@mn.rr.com.

well, i may have forgot something that may or may not be important...is it possible for me to play on the server with everyone else while it's running? i tried setting up a normal server once by creating a batch file and cfg file, and ran it as told, but all i got was a q3 command console. what next? do i type something special to join the game myself? or do i just have to have a really powerful pc to run and play on a server at the same time?
the file you told me to d/l; is it the only file i need? iv'e seen excessive001, 002, and 003.
well, please forgive my ignorance, but again, any and all help is appriciated.
thanks again!!

You either run a listen server or a dedicated server. What you got before with just the console was a dedicated server, you can't join that game from the same computer. A listen server is when you are active in that game all the time. You quit and the server goes with it. The admin guides make reference to both.
Only thing different with a mod is that you need to reference the mod in your batch file and put the server.cfg's in the mod folder. Ex: +fs_game "excessive" +exec excessive.cfg
Or whatever your server.cfg file is named.
