LAN Problem

I'm trying to run Quake III on my LAN but when ever the other computer tries joining the game it wants to fire up the modem. I can set up the server I just don't get why the other computer (and I've tried it on both computers) wants to dial out?? It initiates the modem which locks up the computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are all machines set for lan game in the menu?

I got the same problem, the quck fix is to press ESC twice when the screen becomes "unclickable", Once to cancel the dialup connecion that has started dialing behind the q3 screen and once to close the dialup window, focus then returns to Q3a..

I think the problem is related to the IP addresses on he network and the way that windows routes the protocol, out through the dialup and not a broadcast on the LAN.
