View Full Version : Q3:A Server Ports

I will be running a Q3 server from behind a firewall. My question is, beside the UDP connection port 27960 (or whatever I set), what other ports should be open?

I was told on another message board that I should open ALL ports above 1080. There is NO way I'm going to do this. I don't believe him. If I want to host a max of 10 people, why would I need to open over 26000 ports on my firewall?

Is there anyway i can set a small range of ports on the server, or perhaps if I open only that range of ports on the wall, will the server see only those as available?

Thx in advance for any light that you can shed on this for me.

I run a Quake 3 server on a adsl circuit. I use a Cisco 675 router with NAT enable. The only port I opened for it was 27960. Works fine to general public.

Thx a lot. I will test it tomorrow with just that port opened.

Niemand, maybe you can help me with a little problem I have. I've come to the conclusion that it is currently not fixable but I may be mistaken. I currently run an in house network using a cable modem as it's source to the internet. A hardware router/gateway is used for my computers to access the internet. The problem that this makes is when I create my Quake 3 server and my clients may connect but it's not for sure how long. At random times they will get disconnected. My router/gateway does have port forwarding capabilities and I have forwarded ports 27950 ~ 27960 to my system. Do you know of any way I can correct this problem without having to put my computer infront of the router? Any help is appreciated.
