Hi all,

Working with my clan to setup a server, back in the old days we hosted Cooler and WayCooler if your memory goes back that far http://gameadmins.com/ubb/smile.gif

Anyway, we're putting our hardware together, have a hosting site and are about ready to rocknroll... but I have a few questions...

Server will be dual processor running Win2k Pro, it will ONLY host Q3 games, RA3 and Team Arena seem to be the leading favs right now.

What are your favorite remote access utils and why?

What required programs are needed for rebooting/restarting the server remotely?

Any other tips to pass along?

Thanks http://gameadmins.com/ubb/smile.gif

Ok, due to pricing, we may not be able to go multi-processor... would a 1 Ghz Athlon on a Abit KT7A mobo with raid striping be sufficient for a couple dedicated servers? What memory config would be recommended?

If you just plan on hosting a couple servers you don't need 1 GHz. 500MHz would be more than sufficient for 2 servers. With the cheap price of memory right now I'd just get a stick of 256MB. Maybe get a cheap Duron for the CPU and you'll be set. You'll have to ask someone else about the remote access tools because my servers are linux.

Thanks for the reply... looks like we already have a dual processor P3-600, so the hardware is kinda settled. I'm thinking two public (12 each), and one private server (4-8 players)... assuming decent bandwidth, this should be sufficient, wouldn't it?

Anyone have a link to a bandwidth/server sizing guideline? I'd think that would be great for this website and would like to suggest it http://gameadmins.com/ubb/smile.gif

use VNC it was originally made by oracle then bought by AT&T but it's still free and better than most that you would have to pay for...

It appears to be platform independent according to the small amount that I've read. The viewer is apparently written in Java, hence the portability. Looks like a pretty interesting piece if software...

Barry.
