Okay here goes....
So i want to set up a LAN server to play quake III (or II or even I) on at my LAN party. I was reading the LAN party help thingey or whatever and it said they have a batch file that loads like 16 quake servers at once. on one computer. how do you do that.
you know what my first question should have been. I DONT GET IT HELP ME!!! posted form LANage

create 2 shortcuts on the desktop to the quake3.exe and then add the following to the target field in the properties (right-hand mouse click on the shortcut) window.

It will look something like this: Target: "X:\Games\Quake 3\quake3.exe"

On the first shortcut we will set up a Capture the Flag Server. Do this by adding the following after quake3.exe and make sure these is a space between them:

+set dedicated 1 +exec server_ctf.cfg

+set dedicated 1
// make it a dedicated server (0=OFF 1=ON)

+exec server_ctf.cfg
// Name of the CTF server script you wish to execute.
NOTE: Be sure it is saved in your X:\Quake 3\baseq3\ directory or it will not work

so i was reading through this and it says to add this to the command line +exec server_ctf.cfg and that ctf.cfg needs to be in your baseq3 folder. I looked there and i dont have one. all i have is the base3q.cfg and a bunch of pak files. lol i know its pathetic. i think i have to make it, but i dont know how. please help me out here.

TIA

One server at a time. When you get your first server running, then it's time to work on a second server.

What sort of box do you have at home, that you expect to run 16 q3 servers at once? What guide are you following? Post a link so I can look at it.

Try following the Gameadmins.com Server Setup Guides (http://www.gameadmins.com/modules.php?name=Sections&op=listarticles&secid=1) to get started.

k here is the line form http://www.lanparty.com/theguide/duringtheparty.shtm

Servers: We run as many servers as there are first round matches. For a 64 player tourney we run 32 servers. A dual p2-300 with 256 megs of ram can run 16 one on one servers without breaking a sweat. Each server instance is named Server 1 through Server X. Each game is assigned to a server.

I am pretty sure my comp can handle it, i have 1 that has an AMD 2800+ OCed to a 3200+ with a bad ass video card (Radeon 9800 PRO 256 MB) and another, not as good, an Intel P4 2.26 Ghz with a Nvidia 5700 LE

also they would all be only LAN servers , so something lie dedicated server1 (not two) in the .bat file (i think)

also whats with all this "you need the CD to play with bots" i can play with or without bots and i never need the CD

wow, ive edited this like 8 times, oh well thats okay. anyway i have another question. when i do make a dedicated server, then open another instance of quake to connect to it with, i can connect if i specify the address and the port, but i want it to just be in the "Local" list.

Thanx for ur help!!
